I’m Lee Howell, a fulltime professional photographer based in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Growing up in the U.K., I first embarked on a career in automotive engineering that took me to Formula One as a mechanic for Renault/Team Arrows. After being inspired by my brother’s travel images, I bought my first SLR camera in 2002 and began teaching myself to shoot.
A lifestyle choice saw me move to New Zealand in 2006, and in 2007 I put down the spanners in favour of a fulltime career behind the camera. I’m now creating a reputation for producing images that have a very natural warmth and beauty.
I’m constantly evolving by developing a creative network to contribute to and draw inspiration from. And as much as I’m learning from others, I’m finding great value in shooting personal work to develop my style and technique.
A mix of commercial and editorial clients such as Porsche New Zealand, Environment Canterbury, Chalky Digits, Spoke and Top Gear Magazine (NZ and Australia) have kept me busy during 2010, and I’m looking forward to adding more to the list over the next few years as I establish a studio presence in Christchurch and an international reputation for fresh, creative, people and product imagery.
